Hanging Tent Swing

When Whitney started OT, the first thing her teacher figured out that helped calm her down was spinning.  A word of caution here…spinning does not work for every kid!!! Some kids will get even more excited and hyper, other kids, like Wes, will puke.  But for Whitney, spinning for 3 minutes in an enclosed, dark structure helped calm her.  I immediately found and purchased this hanging tree tent swing and this adjustable curved stand for swings.

I did a lot of research on swings and chose this one mainly because Whitney required a dark space to spin. Her therapist said if she spun and saw lights it might defeat the purpose of getting her inner ear juice moving (because it’s apparently like pudding, which is why she doesn’t get dizzy). I’m only mentioning this because if you choose to get any type of swing for your child, make sure it’s what would work for them. For example, when Wes sits inside, he immediately gets motion sick, unless I rock him back and forth. But I have this fabric saucer spinner swing in the basement and it works perfectly for him. He only swings back and forth, and because it is open, he doesn’t get motion sick.

The stand was a bit tricky for me to find because the location I was placing it in her room had a slanted ceiling. I needed to make sure the stand would be low enough to not hit the ceiling, and this worked perfectly on the lowest setting. I’m sure there are other stands you could use if you didn’t require this feature, but I do like the adjustable feature.
